Bahamas Flamingos
By Flamingo Lover | February 21, 2008
A pleasant surprise awaited me while on a trip to the Atlantis in the Bahamas. Was enjoying the company of the folks that we traveled down with. They love their gambling and love to do it at the Atlantis.
Was reading through the guest book in the room about “Things To Do In Nassau”. Oh, my gosh, there it was, Ardastra Gardens with “Marching Pink Flamingos”. What in the world are marching flamingos? I had to get there.
I laid by the pool at the Atlantis, did a bit of gambling and now there were going to be live flamingos to see! It is only a easy taxi ride from the resort. This is an old zoological garden founded in the 1950s. The founder imported Caribbean flamingos to add color to the gardens. It is now home to about 300 exotic birds, mammals and reptiles.
Don’t expect anything fancy, it is so cozy and natural. It makes for spectacular photo opportunities as flamingos walk across paths in front of you. The marching flamingo show deserves its own discussion. As time permits, I will elaborate on the joy of the “Flamingos at Ardastra Gardens”.
In the meantime, if you are traveling to the Bahamas, on the island of Nassau. The front desk at the Atlantis has all the information to get you to one of the most unique “Flamingo Experiences”. Most folks are planning the well publicized swimming with the dolphins and might oversee this unique flamingo adventure.
You can pick up some rather “tacky flamingo” souvenirs at the gift shop in the gardens to enjoy the memories. It is hot down there and the sun can be brutal to skin. You might want to plan ahead and buy your “flamingo lovers visor” to take down to the islands to protect your face while laying by the pool, visiting the gardens, etc.
