Pink Flamingos|Flamingo Party|Luau Flamingo
By Flamingo Lover | August 25, 2008
As summer is closing and Labor Day approaches, pink flamingos have become popular for luau party decorations. Not necessarily the flocks of plastic pink flamingos that are used for fund raising or flamingo flocking for birthdays. These are unique flamingo party accents to go along with the traditional palm trees, hibiscus, grass skirts, leis and other tropical decorations.
I hosted a luau party about seven years ago. It was an adult luau party and it involved mostly eating and drinking. Of course, there had to be the obligatory limbo contest that you would expect at any luau party.
However, I used my numerous pink flamingo items to personalize the party. I used a large, bright blanket decorated with pink flamingos and palm trees as a backdrop to take pictures of guests as they arrived. Took this idea from the cruise ships. The bright colors made great photos of everyone. I sent the photos after they got developed in a card to everyone or delivered pictures by hand to those friends that I see regularly.
This flamingo theme luau was brought back to memory by a friend who came across the pictures and brought them over for me to see, prompting me to bring the collection out of all of us. We all looked tan, younger and having fun. You can use a tropical flamingo door cover to hang as a backdrop. It really makes for wonderful photos. I know that for years to come, they will see themselves in a picture with flamingos and instantly remember where the party was.
Another idea for flamingo lovers, is that I had a flamingo counting contest to start the luau party off with. Everyone went around trying to count flamingos scattered throughout the house that are of course there all the time. My closets were off limits and were not included. Didn’t want anyone seeing how unorganized I was and trying to count flamingos on a shirt, blouse, pants that was hanging in the closet. Having guests counting pink flamingos around the house made for a wonderful icebreaker game for some people that didn’t know other guests as well. It was fun seeing my friends on their knees counting the number of pink flamingos on rugs. Adding pink flamingo decorations can be fun for a luau party for grownups or luau for kids and birthday luau party celebrations.
